This was imaged using an amateur telescope and cooled color camera from my suburban backyard. Multiple images were stacked together to reduce noise and increase image quality/signal.
This is composed of about 30min of total exposure time using an Edge 11 SCT telescope and ASI2400MC pro camera with L-Pro filter on a CgX-L mount which tracks the movement of celestial objects across the night sky during long exposures.
I processed the image using a program called Pixinsight.
I’m happy to answer any questions.

Think of all the wondrous little aliens in that thing

Fake. Everyone knows sombreros are horizontal, not vertical.

Seriously impressive backyard astrophotography. The Sombrero is notoriously tricky to get right

What is special about this particular galaxy? Astronomy noob here.

That is such an amazing image. It looks like the edge of the entire galaxy is made up of debris or gas that blocks the light from within – can that possibly be?? How could that have come about? A cataclysmic explosion of some kind, or a collision with another galaxy?? It’s mind boggling!
