CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – The effort to support Carbondale’s local music scene is moving at a rapid pace.
The first phase of the Carbondale Downtown Entertainment and Events Plaza construction project is nearly complete.
City leaders say the plaza project will help connect local artists and performers to the national entertainment industry.
Once finished, they say it will be used for concerts, comedy nights, plays, school performances, private gatherings and more.
“Although, construction of phase one will be complete by the end of this year. Then construction of phase two will begin which includes a perimeter area around the stage and a nice terrace lawn for our guests to enjoy the music,” said Carbondale Public Information Office Eva Fisher.
The project costs about $3.5 million with $2 million of that coming from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Rebuild Downtowns and Main Streets program.
Phase one of the project is expected to be this fall, with phase two expected to be completed in summer 2026.
