Biggest boom since Big Bang: Astronomers uncover most energetic explosions in universe

Interesting! I was wondering why these events aren’t more conspicuous here on Earth. Is that because (a) they’re extremely rare, and/or (b) even if they exceed the output of their host galaxy, the net luminosity is not that high compared to stars in the Milky Way? Or is it something else?
