The company who just had to close a hospital in Waterville because of low insurance reimbursement rates says they need insurance companies to pay more.

Northern Light Health, the company that owns Eastern Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital, says their contract with Anthem isn’t keeping up with costs.

They say if they don’t negotiate a new deal with the insurer by the end of September, patients with Anthem will be considered “out-of-network.”

The company says negotiations can be extended through December and coverage will as well.

Anthem also says Northern Light wants to raise prices it charges Anthem patients by 30 percent over the next three years.
