The General Council of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo expresses its deep opposition to the degradation of Kosovo’s institutions by the Vetëvendosje Movement.
The political statement of the General Council states that the Government and the Assembly of Kosovo are practically blocked and have been transformed into propaganda instruments of a single party. Institutions are not party property, they belong to the citizens and should be at the service of the citizens and democracy.
“Self-determination has deliberately failed the functioning of democratic institutions and is transforming Kosovo into a state captured by the will of one man and one party. This government has destroyed the principles of dialogue and national consensus, replacing them with arrogance, political anger and the blocking of any opposition voice and with threats against the media and the voices of journalists,” says AAK.
It further states that “The current government in resignation does not represent the will of the citizens, and is using power for narrow party interests by misusing the state budget. The Assembly, as the highest institution representing the people, has been left at the mercy of Vetëvendosje’s political calculations, while there is no institutional accountability and responsibility.”
“The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo believes that this dysfunction of institutions is a serious threat to democracy and the future of the country. We will continue to be the voice of the citizens and will fight without compromise to restore the institutional integrity and functionality of our institutions based on the law and the constitution of the country.”
AAK says that “The blockage of international relations, caused by the confrontational and isolationist approach of the current Government, is severely damaging Kosovo’s position on the international stage and its opportunities for advancement in Euro-Atlantic integration processes.”
“Vetëvendosje’s demand to hold municipal and national elections at the same time clearly demonstrates their intention to usurp all institutional power in the country and avoid accountability to citizens and to collapse the democratic will of the voters.”
“We call on all opposition parties, civil society and citizens to unite to stop this degradation and to protect our fragile democracy. It is time to speak out loudly and firmly, Kosovo deserves institutions that work for the citizens, not for a single party that for five years has sabotaged the constitutional order, distorted democratic practices and created the image of an unstable partner towards partner states in the EU and the USA”, says the political statement of the AAK General Council. /Telegraph/
