This absolute fucking clown is going to murder the US space program over his own ego.

We can’t say we weren’t warned.

  2. Kinda stupid that they let one man have the power to take down an entire program but here we are.

  3. StopTheFail on

And once again, the good people working on exploration and progress of humanity are under the leadership of people who will burn it all down for their own political gain… americans are the losers in all of this

  4. ehisforadam on

I guess that would be a breech of contract. And I thought SpaceX was all about re-usability?

  5. While I am not a huge fan of Elon Musk, I do support his position on decommissioning. The only way to deal with a bully like Trump is to call his bluff. He counts on people backing down, and yet, he is the one with the TACO nickname.

I’ve been told exhaustively that ceding everything to private interests is very good and has no downsides whatsoever

as much as I hate to say that this is going to be bad for space exploration (it is, absolutely) it’s good to see this being aired out now because maybe it will wake up investors and the government (as shit as they are) to realize that putting all your bets on ONE company is not the smartest of ideas, we need competition from other companies and this is going to allow it finally (Hopefully…)

Everyone knew this love affair was going to end spectacularly. It’s going to get worse.

Shame. There’s good people working at Spacex

If only we had a government agency who’s been sending astronauts to space for 70 plus years. Oh well

  10. Spideyknight2k on

This is the reason NASA has to be a agency. The moment you put one person in charge they screw it up. Even 10 people screw it up. It has to be an entire agency to even have a chance at working.

Hey guys, where are all the people that said Musk and Trump are good for space?

  12. Zero_Travity on

I am no fan of Elon and think Starship’s orbital capabilities are in question.

That being said Space-X is an efficient and effective launch mechanism with impressively powerful chemical rockets. I criticize Space-X every chance I get but the things they do well they do better than anyone.

The things NASA does they do better than anyone. Anything off orbit NASA is king with honorable mentions to the ESA, CNSA, JAXA, Roscosmos, ISRO and actually they all work in conjunction. Everyone brings something to the table.

The in-fighting between Musk and Trump is either for show or just cracks showing in this already shitshow administration which will temporarily hurt western space exploration but there’s no way they will let China win the race to a moon presence, Mars mission, etc…

  13. better rip the band aid off now than later. This shit was always going to be a disaster.

  14. Cool. Nationalize it. Deport him. Great businessing and politicking, Elon. Shoulda stuck with Biden.

  15. Is this the end for the ISS ? As I understand, without Dragon (crew and cargo) it effectively puts a stop to US capability to supply and send astronauts the station, as well as it allies (EU and Japan first). Japan could send supplies, but will they do it if they don’t get anything in return ?

Russia cannot sustain the entire station by itself, even in the case the US keeps the relationship going. And I don’t see the ESA working more closely with the Russians in the near future.

  16. Musk didn’t put in any fail-safes for when the businessman he bought for the presidency doesn’t do exactly everything he wants, did he?

  17. Both Trump and Musk run their mouths without thinking things through. Sometimes you have to think, “The thing I’m about to say. Will it increase my profits?”. Will this open things up for Bezos and Blue Origin?

  18. spacemantodd on

THIS is drama worth watching. The rapid totally scheduled disassembly of this relationship I have been waiting for

  19. doesntnotlikeit on

Political Theatre.. he’s not cancelling shit. Just separating himself from trump to get his company sales back up

  20. Will the people who didn’t vote for the lady with a funny laugh take ownership of this? (Takes deep breath)

  21. Impeach trump at this point he is manipulating everything in government for his own benefit. This is getting ridiculous

  22. Traditional_Peace490 on

The board of SpaceX needs to come together and abandon Elon and make gwynne the CEO

  23. Jeffgoldbum on

Its playing out how many people said it would play out,

They’d do a bunch of misguided cuts to programs and illegal firings, then once they didn’t find the fraud or waste they bleated on about they would start to turn on each other once the scale of how much illegal and bogus stuff they did starts piling up,

But none of this matters to the people who squealed about fraud and wasted funding because at least they are getting rid of non white non Christians without due process,

Its really “made China great again”

  24. Do people really think he’s being serious? The entire point of that statement is to point out what “canceling Spacex contracts” *actually means*.

  25. Gordopolis_II on

Yeah, no he won’t. SpaceX exists because of government subsidy and they are the only way the US has reliable and uninterruptable access to the ISS and LEO. He knows that, Trump knows that. Theyre just playing chicken right.

  26. Elon is the lesser of two evils here. If you want to bemoan about somebody, try starting with the tyrant in the Oval Office who serves himself first and is willing to embrace meaningless chaos in an effort to manipulate. A man who has never had a successful business venture. He’s the catalyst of the events today.

  27. space_manatee on

This is a textbook case for why spaceflight should be owned by public entities and not private ones.

  28. So does this mean Musk is abandoning the astronauts on the ISS as he accused Biden of doing?

  29. NoBusiness674 on

Does SpaceX even have the authority to unilaterally pull out of the Commercial crew and Commercial resupply services contracts? Nasa already awarded SpaceX missions until crew 14, and usually, you can’t just say nuh-uh if you don’t want to deliver on a contractual obligation. If it’s just about not awarding additional contracts beyond those already on the books, Boeing’s Starliner will almost certainly be operational by the time the crew 14 is ready to return so this wouldn’t be much of a threat.

  30. Oh well. Aint that a shame. To be honest, NASA shouldn’t have outsourced this in the first place

  31. rohrschleuder on

These 2 schmucks just can’t help but screw everyone over. I hate to say it but Americans need to lose and lose bad for anything to change. Musk & Trump aren’t the first conmen to be in government but they are the worst so far. Now if only Fox News could futz it up this bad America would be back on a right track.
