From about two hours it takes to get from Resen to the Greek municipality of Prespa, with the new Markova Noga – Lemos border crossing, the construction of which has officially begun on both sides of the border, the travel time will be reduced to 40 minutes.

The works on the BorPres2 project on the Macedonian side officially began in March, while yesterday in the Municipality of Prespa the beginning was also marked on the Greek side, with the event “Lake Prespa Border Station: Establishment of the border crossing between Greece and the Republic of North Macedonia in the Lake Prespa area”, which was attended by the Ministers of Internal Affairs of the two countries, Pance Toshkovski and Teodoro Livanios, the EU Ambassador to the country, Michalis Rokas, as well as representatives of local authorities.

Due to yesterday’s 24-hour strike by journalists in Greece, Greek media, primarily those from the northern part of the country, today published reports about the start of work in Prespa.

The Macedonian delegation, together with Ambassador Rokas, crossed the border on foot and arrived at the event in Prespa.

The EU Ambassador to the country, in a statement to the media, said that it is an important historical day, but also that it is an honor for him to be the first to cross the border.

“This is an EU-funded program and we hope, above all, to improve communication between peoples, but also to protect Prespa, the lake that is a world heritage site in biodiversity. I believe it will help with tourism, with communications, with trade and I am really happy to be the first to cross the border. I hope that within a year and a half to two we will make it official,” Rokas told the newspaper “Ihos” from Florence.
