Wish I hadn’t watched that, makes me so angry. The people responsible for this need to be held to account.

  2. RockinOneThreeTwo on

It’s ok though, it’s the vegans who are extreme for daring to say that we shouldn’t be buying products from an industry that makes liberal use of gas chambers. 🙂

  3. This is approved by the RSPCA Assured program.

    > “RSPCA Assured said the birds in the footage were already unconscious and were not in pain”

What a joke. People give their hard earned money to this charity to protect animals and instead they take money from the people that do this nonsense, in exchange for the use of their respected brand to make consumers think they are making an ethical choice buying those products.

I’m not vegan myself, but do follow joey carbstrong as he is shining a light on these awful practices

I mean not to sound callous or cruel but is it particularly painful for the chicken as a method of dispatch? -i honestly don’t know genuine question.
If it isn’t then it’s not exactly a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon but when farming on an Industrial scale you have to use industrial techniques.

Fuck the people who invented this, fuck the people in control of this , fuck the rspca endorsing this, fuck the people who consume the products made from this.

You guys haven’t seen a pig being slaughtered have you? This is nothing compared to that.

If you’re not vegan you’re funding this.

Nation of animals lovers, what a joke.

Aside from local farms or smaller local holdings/honesty boxes does anyone here have any good recommendations for ethical eggs?

Things like this always make me consider just where I’m buying from but if this is RSCPA certified it makes it difficult to feel confident in any choice.

This is no secret. Well, only to the naive.

17 years ago Jamie Oliver (love or hate him) slaughtered a chicken and gassed male chicks in front of a Live Audience as part of a TV show !

    “Jamie’s Fowl Dinners” Channel4

One episode is still on youtube titled “Jamie Oliver shows the truth about chickens”. I’m not linking it because, well, it’s still tea time for some.

For as long as animals are used as commodities they’ll be treated like them. Places that breed, exploit and kill animals are always gonna find the cheapest way to do it not the nicest.

I’m glad I don’t eat chicken any more. This shit is absolutely dreadful.

  13. AirResistence on

Honestly theres no excuses for the adhorrent conditions farm animals find themselves in and yes this goes both for shit like this that is “RSPCA assured” and all the other programs along with Halal. For a nation of animal lovers we sure love to find new ways to kill animals.

What part of that is secret…? We know ages ago, but now the media picks it up, everyone goes wow!

  15. Sorry if this is ignorant, but is there a standard of eggs that mean the hens were not gassed, kept in awful conditions or abused?

Or is the only way to get your own hens or find something local?

Once had a chat with someone who worked in a chicken place. He said they got investigated one time as many birds had broken wings etc., and inspectors thought they were mistreating them. What they actually determined was the gas process itself makes the chickens fight so bad for their life some would get injuries before their death. The sad reality is when you need to butcher hundreds of thousands of chickens per day this is the result. I asked if it would be possible to do manual methods and he said it would essentially be impossible due to the volume of butchered chickens going out and new hens coming in.

Carbon dioxide? Holy shit, this is the second most horrifying death right after being burned alive.

Who the fuck approves this saying it’s “painless” and “cruelty free”?

My fucking God this is horrifying.

im not quite sure this video and article are being honest. it does not state that these animals are unconscious at the time of gassing and so these movements you see are simply the body reactions without consciousness being a driving force of it. its UK law that animals are stunned before slaughter except for religious practices so these are sleeping chickens being killed.

  19. Suffocating in carbon dioxide is like breathing in battery acid. This is one of the most painful, tourtured deaths imaginable.

They are lying through their teeth about the birds being “unconscious” and “not in pain”. This is immoral, monstrous cruelty.

Painless methods of slaughter do exist (carbon monoxide), but they aren’t using them.

  20. Interesting & incredibly loaded headline?

Supposes it is better & more humane being gassed than being ripped apart & eaten alive by predators or their throat slashed by antiquated religious practices!

  21. TouchGrassBruz on

RSPCA is as evil as it gets, they approved this method. For those who dont know this is like breathing in acid, horrific way to go.

Only buy eggs from small scale locals with trust boxes.

  22. Don’t ask what happens to male chicks.

Especially bad when we now have the tech to identify them prior to incubation.

  23. As always: entirely possible to do this humanely with nitrogen gas which would genuinely be painless (mammals as a rule can’t tell the difference between pure nitrogen and regular air). It’d just cost slightly more.

  24. I think we need to wake up and realise that “cheap and readily available” has consequences we might not like.

I’m not saying eggs should become a luxury for the wealthy, but maybe we shouldn’t take them for granted like we do.

Vegans posting another distasteful video of food animals being killed because they can’t persuade people to adopt their value system by argument? Must be a day ending in a ‘y’.

Yes, death is unpleasant to watch. It’s also a lazy tactic to resort to posting unpersuasive shock videos.
