I’m not affiliated with the Planetary Society, but like most of you reading this, I care deeply about space exploration and I’m extremely troubled by the proposed budget cuts. The planetary society is leading the way and advocating our government to not make these cuts, and they have a petition which I realized is still short more than 2000 signatures of their goal that ends today.
Please sign the petition and write to your congress member! It takes just a couple minutes!

Why?
No, not why do we want science funding to continue. why do they need X number of signatures? Did some congressman pledge to change a vote if a certain number was reached? Will they not send the petition under a certain number? What is the significance of 20000 (read the petition not the title) and why the deadline for those of today?
I guess I can’t update my post, but please consider [writing to your representatives](https://www.planetary.org/advocacy-action-center#/53). It’s right on the Planetary Society website. It takes a couple minutes.
This post has been up for 16 minutes and it’s telling me that 5k people have already viewed it.
I think this is the only way the average person is able to have their voice be heard on this issue. Change won’t happen if your representatives think nobody cares about it!
I signed the petition, but I truly doubt congress will listen.
Why would I as a tax payer pay for the planet society. We have telescopes. If you want to see a planet go buy one with your own money
