A tiger born at a zoo in Norfolk has left the country to join an international endangered species programme.

Kash, an Amur tiger, was born at Banham Zoo in 2023 but is now in Denmark as part of the International European Endangered Species Programme (EEP).

His brother, Kamur, also recently settled abroad, in France, in conjunction with a similar scheme.

A spokesman for the zoo said: “Kash has been a favourite among our Animal Team, colleagues, volunteers and guests.

“While we’ll miss him dearly, we’re incredibly proud of the important role he’s now playing in safeguarding the future of his species.

“A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated Carnivore Team for the exceptional care they’ve given Kash since birth.”

It is estimated that there are fewer than 1,000 Amur Tigers left in the wild.

One of the zookeepers added: “There are some quite amusing memories we have of him, like squishing his nose right up against the window.”

Kash’s mother, Mishka, is now the only tiger left at Banham Zoo.
