Before February 2022, the Spanish defense company Indra had already cooperated with Ukraine. In 2011, it supplied radars for civil aviation authority. This Spanish defense company may now play a crucial role in bolstering Ukraine’s air defenses, particularly amid the Trump-led U.S. retreat from European security.
Moreover, Ukraine is interested in cooperating with Indra beyond just air defense radars. This was reported by El Periodico.

The authors of this publication write that Indra’s management had a three-day visit to Kyiv, during which they met with representatives of the Ukrainian government responsible for the defense industry and civil aviation.
It is reported that Ukraine has a direct interest in the Nemus radar, which can detect threats from guided missiles or UAVs targeting armored vehicles.Ukraine is also interested in electronic warfare systems that could be installed on aircraft and radars to detect air targets.
Ukrainian officials have reportedly shown interest in Indra’s space technologies, which provide data collection, communication, and command and control capabilities.

Interestingly, the meeting between the Spanish delegation and Ukrainian officials in Kyiv took place on June 12, 2025, alongside a separate meeting between Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and his Spanish counterpart Margarita Robles during the NATO Defense Ministers’ Meeting.
It should also be noted that during russia’s full-scale invasion, Spain provided a significant amount of direct military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and sold Ukraine shells and mines worth 200 million euros in just 1.5 years.
