“Recently I moved to a new apartment, penthouse to be exact. After a week I noticed cockroaches when I went to the kitchen during the night. Plenty of them. In the last 10 years it’s my first encounter with them inside the house. Next morning I informed the landlord about it. After couple of days he came with some spray and sprayed under the cabinets and on the kitchen and bathroom window while me and dog were 3m from the “spraying zone”. He said is safe… is it??!! It’s killing something hard to kill but all of a sudden it’s not toxic to human and pets? Cool…

He didn’t check from where they are coming from. He didn’t move the oven or the fridge. While I’m keeping my place very tidy, I noticed it’s dirty under oven and the fridge. Perfect buffet for the roaches.

We were away for the weekend so I took a chance and sprayed again after 4 days from the initial spraying, more thoroughly, with the rest of the spray that he left behind.
After we came back I saw some more, I hope, dead bugs plus the little ones like in the second photo so obviously they keep coming back and reproducing! After first spray I found maybe 2 dead ones, but when I saw them that night in the kitchen they were more than 10 easily.

So question here.

How effective those sprays are?

Is it really safe for us and our dog be inside while spraying?

And the last one:

Is it really that hard to pay 70e for a proper pest control service?”

  1. Just contact the landlord again and say that the spraying didn’t work and that he needs to get the exterminator

  2. i would suggest speaking to an exterminator that will use a gel like substance that kills cockroaches. You will need atleast two applications as the gel doesn’t kill newly hatched cockroaches or those still in eggs.

  3. The Comtec sprays seem legit. lots of dead cockroaches since I sprayed 3 weeks ago.

you can buy from their shop and spray. your landlord should do this. you get like 5l of spray, so he can do all his properties and home.

  4. they say it’s safe for people because it’s Chrysanthemum. that said it’s better to use Diatomaceous Earth. spread it around and the insects walk on it and it basically punctures their skin and they dehydrate and die.

i’d do it myself rather than ask the landlord. the land lord will gladly exterminate you with the bugs.

Pull the fridge and stove and clean behind and under. Make sure there are no holes and if so stuff the with steel wool or let landlord know. Put out some bait traps and spray more again yourself as well.

If it continues inform landlord he needs a professional to help.

Question regarding the spray are hard to answer if you don’t know what the spray is, and using things to kill the roaches is only a temporary solution.
Unless you find where the they are coming from, after you kill them more will just come back.

Also as for the last question, based on the landlord it seems that they will do anything not to spend money on a solution. Not sure how long you’ve been in the place and how much you value it, but if the landlord won’t help I’d recommend looking for somewhere else, only way to deal with these kinds of people.

Deep clean everywhere youraelf. Then fill ip every crevice with expandable foam.
That should reduce them coming in then you will need less spray, comtec is good
