Marriott group officially announces the opening of the JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa., the brand’s first beach resort in the Mediterranean and the new flagship of luxury hospitality on the island of Crete.

Located on the coast of Marathi, near the picturesque town of Chania, the property covers more than 100 acres of pristine coastline, with 160 rooms, suites, and villas overlooking the Aegean Sea, many with private pools.

“The JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa is a serene retreat that perfectly embodies our vision of luxury experiences geared toward wellness and deep connection with self and place,” said Helen Leighton, Vice President, Luxury Brands EMEA at Marriott. “An invitation to slow down, breathe and immerse yourself in the rhythm of the island.”

Sustainable architecture and in harmony with nature

Designed by Athenian firm Block722, the architectural design stands out for its integration with the environment: Green roofs, olive groves, natural materials such as marble and wood, and a design that favors continuity between indoors and outdoors. The sustainable approach is also evident in the energy systems: geothermal energy, solar panels, heat recovery, and graywater reuse for irrigation.

    A journey into Cretan flavors

The resort is home to six restaurants, including ANOEE, led by chef Manolis Papoutsakis, which offers dishes over an open fire in the Cretan tradition. There is no shortage of contemporary Italian cuisine (Cuccagna), Mediterranean sharing (Fayi) and a refined sea-to-table concept (Õnalos). The JW Garden, the brandÕs signature organic garden, provides fresh herbs and vegetables used in the kitchen and cocktails.

In partnership with the Line Athens bar, awarded among the world’s 50 best, the resort also presents an exclusive mixology program based on Cretan botanicals.

Wellness and hospitality for all ages

The heart of wellness is the ANOSEAS spa, which blends traditional rituals and modern therapies in a striking setting with a sea view. A fitness center, four swimming pools and a yoga terrace complete the offerings. The resort is also home to Europe’s first JW Market, a hybrid space between cafeteria and concept store dedicated to local and artisanal products.

Also designed for families, the resort offers the Phestos Den, an educational and play area run by Worldwide Kids, as well as outdoor activities, educational gardens and personalized adventures to discover Cretan heritage.

With the opening of the JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa, Marriott is bringing its luxury brand to the Greek island for the first time, further raising the bar for Mediterranean hospitality.

An incredible opportunity to use Bonvoy points

The opening of chain facilities increasingly increases the possibility of staying using points even without going too far from Italy.

In July prices for a room at this resort with breakfast included are no less than €540, but if you want a cancellable rate the price goes up quickly.

In contrast, the price with points is about 85k points per night, but as always I remember that, in the Marriott house, For every 4 nights paid with points there is a free night.
