Osmani meets with Owada: As president of the ICJ, he led this institution at one of the most important moments for Kosovo

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, received today in a meeting the distinguished professor of international law and former President of the International Court of Justice, Hisashi Owada.
“After an extremely friendly meeting with him during her visit to Japan, President Osmani considered it a special honor to receive Professor Owada in her office, emphasizing that he represents an extraordinary figure in the field of international justice and a tireless promoter of global peace,” the presidency’s announcement states.
At this meeting, President Osmani expressed the deep gratitude of the institutions and citizens of the Republic of Kosovo for the historic role of Professor Owada, “who as President of the ICJ has led this institution in one of the most important moments for the state of Kosovo – the issuance of the advisory opinion of July 22, 2010, where the Court confirmed that Kosovo’s declaration of independence did not violate international law.”
The President praised Professor Owada’s extraordinary contribution not only to Kosovo, but also to the development and advancement of international law and efforts for global peace, the announcement further states.
“On this occasion, President Osmani congratulated Professor Owada on the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” awarded by the University of Pristina, emphasizing that the institutions and citizens of the Republic of Kosovo will remain eternally grateful for his support and vision.”
