LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — October is Oral Health Awareness Month, a time to emphasize the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and gums, which can significantly affect other parts of the body. Dr. Phillip Devore, a local dentist and member of the Silver State Club, along with Charles Tureaud, a representative of the club, discussed the critical role of dental health in overall well-being.
“Lack of affordable dental insurance remains an issue for many Nevadans,” said Tureaud. He stressed the importance of daily habits for optimal dental health, noting that avoiding the dentist is not an option.
“Incorporating dental health as a priority when considering overall health is crucial,” Tureaud added. He advised setting aside monthly savings to lessen the financial burden of unexpected health costs.
Dr. Devore highlighted the connection between oral health and heart health. “Remove the plaque from your teeth by flossing because the same plaque can be found in your arteries, which is the same plaque that impacts heart health,” he said.
The Silver State Club offers resources for those seeking to manage high-cost dental bills. “The Silverstateclub.com is the pathway to money savings with regard to high-cost dental bills,” Tureaud said. The club is also available to meet with companies interested in providing dental plans for their employees.
