I think the only 2 points that matter are that Carney is a serious business leader who is not an idealogue and Poilievre is a populist rabble rouser.

  2. Poilievre was almost uniquely suited just for Trudeau, and it really shows in these results. Even most of the criticisms about Trudeau can be made with the same or better levels of validity to PP. Disliked JT’s resume before entering politics because he never had a serious private sector job? Well, PP has an even thinner and shakier one. JT coming across as condescending to those outside his base? PP’s got that one covered in spades too.

It’s hard to find someone that comes across as more serious than Mark Carney when it comes to high stakes jobs, and it doesn’t look like PP is that person. There’s a good reason he waited until JT was right before his expiry date to seize the reins for himself rather than fighting in an election where the LPC was in a stronger position; it’s because even he knows that the winning formula for a PM PP is incumbency malaise and a pervasive sense of “Hey, can’t be any worse, can it?”

  3. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens if PP wins in the byelection (which he will) and when he gets back into Parliament. It will become apparent quickly that Carney is there to work and PP is just there to do nothing.
