For context, in early 2025, the Georgian parliament, controlled by Georgian Dream, created a commission to investigate alleged crimes from the Saakashvili era (2003–2012).

Most of the opposition leaders summoned on the hearing refused to take part, saying the entire process is just a "show" and illegitimate, just like the parliament itself, which they claim was elected through fraud in 2024. The commission doesn’t include a single opposition member.

Most of those who refused weren’t even in politics at the time – Zurab Japaridze (in politics since 2012), The morning Khazarallie and Badri Japaurzie (Sinice 2019), Nika Melia (Since 2013), Giorgi Vashade and Nika Gvaramia, the only ones politically active during the years being investigated.

Most of them have already been sentenced to 8 months in prison, while the rest await final verdicts. For the record, local elections are just 4 months away.

  1. Well, unfortunately, since the Georgian opposition and their supporters have declared ‘No violence! No revolution!’, hoping that by being victims the EU will somehow wave a magic wand and make it all better, this was inevitable. GD have openly declared their intent to become the new Belarus; since the people are horrified by anything that’s not a magical unicorn of new elections or GD magically disappearing, this is the way it’ll be for the next few generations.
