“Crisis in KEK”, Rizvanolli: Energy mafia may exist in Belgrade, but Kosovo has nothing to do with it
Acting Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, has said that all news about electricity is “misinformation”, according to her, emphasizing that there has never been a moment when KEK produced zero megawatt hours of electricity, or that Kosovo has ever been in an ‘energy collapse’.
In a press conference, Rizvanolli said that not all blocks have been in operation since April, explaining that for the first time at the “Kosova B” power plant, the turbines are being modernized and for this reason it has been out of operation for almost six months.
At this conference, Rivanolli also spoke about the “energy mafia” in the Balkans, but, according to her, no institution in Kosovo has any relationship or connection with it.
Rizvanolli further said that Kosovo has challenges in the energy sector, because according to her, the security of supply depends on 62 and 42 year old power plants.
She said at the press conference that a series of misinformation has recently been circulating regarding the import of electricity into Kosovo.
According to her, in recent days it has been said that Kosovo is importing energy from Serbia, but as she said, they have incorrectly referred to the physical flows of energy in the transmission lines between Kosovo and Serbia.
Meanwhile, Rizvanolli has also spoken about the “energy mafia” in the Balkans, but, as she said, no Kosovo institution has any connection to it.
“I haven’t spoken about it because it’s so irrelevant and baseless that I didn’t think it was worth mentioning. Unfortunately, some people won’t stop saying it. The energy mafia in the Balkans may exist, and may have its headquarters in Belgrade, but no Kosovo institution has any relationship, connection or contact with it, neither social nor business, nor anything. It’s absurd to say it because those who accuse don’t have a single shred of truth to what they say… We can’t expect them to be correct, but I ask you not to take for granted all the statements you hear and read, but to refer to the official information from the responsible companies,” said Rizvanolli.
At this press conference, Rizvanolli also reacted to MP Hykeme Bajrami regarding the procurement process at KEK for the rehabilitation and modernization of unit A3.
On Friday, the KESCO company announced that it has been informed of a significant shortage of local electricity production that is expected to occur tomorrow and in the following days.
According to the KESCO announcement, “in the most extreme case, this would mean that the entire amount of electricity for consumers in Kosovo would have to be covered through imports.”
