    > Who do you think you are kidding Mr. Putin,

    > If you think we’re on the run?

    > We are the boys who will stop your little game.

    > We are the boys who will make you think again.

    Who with?

China isn’t invading us, plenty of folk to chew through before we even appear on the horizon.

Russia is no longer a serious threat as far as steamroll of Europe and a landing of troops in blighty.

Who seriously considers Iran to be a threat of invasion?

So, Ireland and France (the old enemy)???
I suspect even Farage will have a hard time selling that.

Terrorist and cyber are realistic attacks vectors, and given the shape of the world, it’s just as likely to be the USA throwing cyber our way.

  3. Being prepared is just common sense. Doesn’t mean that anything is likely to happen.

  4. It’s right that the government prepare for nightmare scenarios but I feel like the idea that Iran would be able to do anything to attack Britain in Britain in any meaningful way outside of terror attacks is nigh impossible. It feels like a bit of a sensationalised headline dressing up pragmatic crisis planning as a much more likely eventuality than it actually is.

No one is going to war for Israel or Ukraine. The people pushing for war need to first get their children and grandchildren to volunteer first?

Correct me if I’m wrong but is this not total bullshit? Unless they mean something rather abstract and modern by “war”? Which country could possibly be considering attacking “British soil” (and by extension, NATO) either by long range missile or by land invasion? It would be suicide for Russia to even attempt it (also why would they even want to), and every other potential adversary doesn’t have the means to even try.

Unconventional warfare i.e. cyberattacks, energy supply, “terrorist” style attacks within our borders, assassinations etc – that’s a different story. I agree we are at a severe risk from these types of threats. But describing these as a “wartime scenario on British soil”, which immediately summons images of WWII, is incredibly disingenuous. I think this is political posturing from a government desperate to sound “hard” in an attempt to win back the voters who have moved to Reform. If instead of focusing on that, they focused on increasing their core support and *actually behaving like* a “left wing” party… they might start to get somewhere.

We need to invest in the navy to keep the shipping lanes open, that’s our biggest threat.

  8. Hungry_Horace on

Where exactly does the “quote” in the headline come from? I think they’ve made it up by putting adding in the words “British soil“.

The minister was warning about the “UK homeland coming under direct threat” which means sabotage, naval and air incursions and I guess the possibility of missiles and drones from Russia.

But that’s a million miles away from “a wartime scenario on British soil” which suggests boots on the ground. The Nazis couldn’t get naval or air superiority to launch an invasion, it’s not credible to think the Russians would manage it.

    TL:DR misleading headline.

Nothing like a bit of hysteria to drum up some clicks. Nothing to see here, carry on.

  10. Joekickass247 on

The only realistic scenarios for an attack on British soil are 1)terrorist or 2) long range missile. No army is going to be landing on the beaches or parachuting in.

Is this referring to the coming civil war with Islam? Cos i think that’s a little bit premature, I thought they’d wait a bit yet.. what was the percentage of population before they did it in Lebanon?

  12. Comrade_Corbyn123 on

    Absolute sensationalist bollocks.

From the headline, you’d think we were expecting the Russians to be sailing up the Thames and marching through London.

What they’re butchering that headline from is “we have to actively prepare for the possibility of the UK homeland coming under direct threat, potentially in a wartime scenario.” This could mean ANYTHING – disrupted supply lines, cyber attacks, anything at all. Nowhere does it actually say there’ll be soldiers marching down the streets.

I’ll wait till the VIP soldier queue has been filled with the upper classes … then I’ll think about if my working class bum wants to join in

Nah, VIP lanes / queues probably won’t happen this time, will they?

  14. Outside of Ukraine everything going on falls under the category of rich and a bit racist folk swinging their dicks about. Not to mention epsteins pals trying to keeping us looking in the other direction.

Let them fight it out amongst themselves.

  15. Monkeyboogaloo on

All the things I mentioned would be on British soil. They would all be against assets/infrastructure in our country.

  16. neptune_2k06 on

No, we must not. Unless Elon Musk was right and they mean a civil war or they are talking about nuclear war. Not much to prepare for in case of the latter though, most people are going to die no matter what.

  17. Give me a house I can afford, a decent pension and salary and I might get out of bed to see what war you’re on about. Until then, the flat roof pub military unit can take care of things.

We have plenty of young hard man running about with full black outfits on.
These aspiring footballers have been training for this.

  19. Glum-County7218 on

We wouldn’t have to prepare for wartime scenario if we didn’t get involved in destabilising other countries. Why can’t we just focus on ourselves and our own problems

  20. Away-Trifle1907 on

We aint getting invaded. War starts, and we get nuked. One drop in london country is fucked

  21. Baggers_2000 on

An attack on British soil would almost certainly trigger a serious response from the USA and probably the rest of NATO. It’d be suicide for whatever country tried it

  22. Mohammed-Yusef on

Ah yes, an island nation with a very capable air force and navy has to worry about invasions..

I had no idea Iran and Russia had the ability to land on British soil.

What are we going to do, “dig for victory” and refurbish the old WW2 pillboxes? Complete bollocks

  24. I’m okay, too old for conscription, so I’ll join the Home Guard instead…. “don’t panic”

  25. Being prepared presumably means making sure we can’t make any steel, or produce any energy, or grow any food right?

The world is being remade according to the whims and desires of the billionaire class.

    They are the new Kings

Ordinary folk are here merely to serve.

  27. Due-Tell1522 on

Plenty sleeper cells all over the UK without question. We must live in permanent gaslight world when the government who imported them advises us they need to prepare for the crisis they created

  28. Who would invade us, exactly? We’re a small island with a failing economy that lost most of our political relevance and we spend most of our time drinking and whinging. In what way would an invasion be worth it?
