Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski says that Bulgarian MEP Andrei Kovachev is a member of the EPP parliamentary group and therefore expected an amendment for a “modern” Macedonian identity and language in the draft report on Macedonia on the path to the EU.
According to the Prime Minister, 15 MEPs from the EPP were “in favor” of the Report by rapporteur Thomas Waitz, while three MEPs were against. Among the officials who voted was David McAllister, Chair of the EP’s Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET).
Mickoski also informed that two Greek MEPs abstained.
“This was the vote within the EPP. We have them exactly by name and surname. It is good that we have passed the first hurdle and it is good that we have seen that the essence is not just a few hundred Bulgarians (in the Constitution). I do not know if we will succeed in the plenary session, but we will fight hard. This issue will now be raised in The Hague.
“Is any NATO member state preventing another from integrating and thus harming security in the region? And this must be answered,” the Prime Minister said at today’s press conference after the unsuccessful proposal to introduce the amendment with the “modern” wording in the RMV Report. /Telegraph/
