I genuinely suffer with a medical condition that requires me to take medication daily on top of the four operation I’ve had in 3 years, for the issue. In 2022 I got a letter with a point score and everything was zero because basically I’m capable of working full time even tho I have a medical condition for life. Yet my self inflicted alcoholic druggie neighbour gets that and UC and admits the holidays she goes on are paid for with her pip and uc

And this will only get worse.
Government has put off reforming social care for the better part of a decade, leaving it to councils to sort out the mess with limited resources. It badly needs reform, but because the Treasury blocks any attempt at it that might increase spending in central government, the system is basically being kept operational by people going above and beyond to care for vulnerable people.

Dear Guardian, maybe you shouldn’t have campaigned to give out money to rich pensioners to heat their mansions, then we’d have money for people actually in need.

I am sure funding cuts play a part in this number but it almost certainly isn’t the whole story.
My elderly mum has a friend who has applied and been rejected several times for state funded social care for her husband. She wasn’t rejected because of funding cuts, she was rejected because she has nearly £250k in the bank but still wanted the council to pay for it, they said no.
I am sure she is not the only one to have tried this.

Why is it that when there are “hard decisions” to be made, it’s always services for the poor that get cut, and taxed higher, but never the rich being made to contribute their fair share towards society

What’s the answer then
To fund it properly we are going to have to up taxes a lot
Or we are going to have to reduce the scope of who is entitled to support

Well it was either this or tax rises.. people want all of the democratic socialism but don’t want to pay for it. The media run this country

It’s laughable that minimum wage and NI are being blamed when it’s people over 65 who hold most of the wealth and assets, and actively voted in govts who ensured their wealth and assets bloomed, whilst sneering at their poorer peers who didn’t make hay whilst the sun shone..The years of greed and self are catching up with us all, and we’re all poorer for it.

And now it makes sense to me..
Both Mrs Odin and I had a care package funded by our local Adult Social Care. Our needs have increased, so we got reassessed.
All of a sudden, they have decided we are not entitled to any care and are ignoring us when we ask why.
It feels like we are just being shit on constantly. How dare we have the audacity to be disabled and in need of help.
All of this makes us feel like our lives are worthless. What is the fucking point, seriously?
