The part where Mamdani wins 42.5% of median income over $117,600 is absolutely fascinating. You wouldn’t get that from the constant vibe about how the legacy media paints him as someone that wants to eat the rich. I think it’s a good sign when he’s able to somehow reach across class lines and build a coalition across the board.

I don’t see how Cuomo lost. Sure Cuomo was accused of sexual harassment by 11 women, but that is less than half the women who have accused Trump, so he should get a pass right? And so what if he altered nursing home Covid deaths data by under reporting by half. Didn’t Trump try to do similar things like wanting to stop testing because “the more you test, the higher the numbers go up”? And using state staff to write his $5 million advance fee book is not big deal. Trump uses government staff and money for personal gain all the time and his Art Of The Deal was ghost written too. Seems to me Cuomo is a perfect Republican candidate. Oops, my bad, I just noticed he was running as a Democrat.

He may not help the Dems going forward, especially if aligns with squad types. If he doesn’t change, he could wing up like Jamal Bowman, who, along with his supporters, thought he was the dawn of a new age.

Does anyone have crosstabs of age AND race? I wouldn’t be terribly shocked if the Black population that voted overwhelmingly for Cuomo in the Bronx is largely older than 50. Establishment Dems (re: Clinton adjacent) still hold huge sway over that age group and young Black voters (especially male) are just not voting or voted in relatively high numbers for GOP in ’24 (from a very low base, but still). That’s a huge hill to climb that Dems need to work on. The biggest surprise for me is actually the Hispanic vote voting for Mamdani. That boogeyman word of “socialist” might be finally starting to fade in the Millennial/Gen Z bloc vs. Hispanic Boomers (just don’t start to compare NYC with Texas and Florida Hispanics though…)
