Journalist Xhemajl Rexha has shared insights from the NATO summit held today in The Hague.
At this summit, the leaders of NATO member states pledged to increase their defense spending to 5% of GDP by the year 2035.

Rexha noted that what stood out was the fact that Kosovo was not left unmentioned — both by U.S. President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“President Donald Trump was asked many questions by journalists, but only 15 to 20 managed to get a question in.
As for our region, it’s important to note that Kosovo was mentioned twice in two different contexts. Trump, who has often said he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, emphasized that he stopped a war between Kosovo and Serbia. Meanwhile, a second reference — more unclear — came about 15 minutes later when he said in English: ‘Serbia was up to it,’ which can be interpreted in several ways, including that Serbia may have been planning something against Kosovo,” Rexha said.

The journalist added that Turkish President Erdogan also spoke about the situation in northern Kosovo and the presence of Turkish KFOR troops in the region.

“Erdogan also held a press conference. He was asked by a journalist from Kosovo about KFOR’s presence there. President Erdogan said that as long as Turkish KFOR remains in northern Kosovo, he hopes nothing will happen,” said Xhemajl Rexha.
