    The reason they are given “people” names is very specific

    If you are to be aware of a storm, you probably think “best pack a raincoat”

    If you switch on the news and hear about “storm person name” it becomes more relatable, more urgent, you actually change your plans and take it seriously, just like you should.

    A newsreader saying “a storm is coming” sounds like a slow news day

    A newsreader saying “storm Alan is coming” sounds urgent, because it is. Same storm, different actions.

    Plus naming after a corporate entity could jeopardise news coverage, potentially breach copyright, plus it’s the met office that decides
