Lockheed Martin says they can do a Mars sample return mission for $3 billion. They would base the lander off the InSight lander.

    Estimates say the cost will be $3b and the value is $7b. So I imagine the cost will be $5.5B and revenue to be $6b. Costs always run over, and revenue is always lower.

  2. Literally the post right below this one in my feed was about the government canceling 3.5 billion in carbon capture contracts. So we could fund the Mars sample return and still have net “savings”, right?

    Its going to find tax cuts for the wealthy? Oh okay, never mind.

  3. Of course they have no plans to fund it themselves. They want the government to pay for all of it.

    This program is going to get canceled. No way NASA would have spare $3 billion when whole agency budget got gutted.

    Seriously? Wasn’t the JPL powered lander based on insight, except they actually built it
