this is just baffling. Does the home office genuinely think it’s safe for Ukrainians to return to Ukraine as Russian invasion is ongoing (and has ramped up in recent weeks)? That’s a bit mental

Areas are safe, official guidance is available for the public online if you know what you’re looking for.
No one from Ukraine should be granted asylum. We’d be arguing 40m people have a claim.
I would hate to be in their position but I understand.
You can’t give asylum to every citizen of a country at war otherwise you’re just vacating the land and giving it to the aggressor

It’s really mostly the east of Ukraine that’s unsafe. Most of the country is fine for them to live in.
Jesus they’re at war for God sake, we spend so much money and time on people who just randomly arrive here but we decide if ur fleeing a war on European soil which we commit to fund and support you only get limited stay until ur told to return to face rocket and artillery strikes because “safe” ffs uk
We can deport refugees back to Ukraine because a war zone is safe to return to, yet we cannot deport a child rapist back to Pakistan because it would ‘make them sad’.
It seems fair to be honest, it’s only a small part that is under attack and they do have a lot avoiding conscription

They need more meat for the grinder, sending them back is a guaranteed death sentence and they know it.
It’s sad and I understand that circumstances but I also believe if they can go back and fight then they should. If the rest of the western world is providing so much in terms of materials then they need to show that they are willing to fight too. I’d be fine accepting women and children refugees. Your country needs you though and you should be fighting. I don’t know what I’d do if I was in the same circumstances and I might also try to flee, I’m lucky to not be though.

The Home Office is not known for its logic or neither is it known for its understanding of imminent danger. Lest we forget, Putin has his eyes on all of The Ukraine.
As for comments about go back and fight for your country, I don’t see truth to deed since our own military is suffering a haemorrhaging of personnel and not just through cuts in defence but a bigger issue of sign-ups. We have way too many teenagers of eligible age who choose to live their lives not in service.
I say this as a 60 year old, from a military family background. Wars are created by old men and fought by young people. Our education system has not included joining the military as a viable or even desirable vocation since my schooling age.
So a genuine refugee can return (despite their country absolutely not being safe) but we give hotel places to people whose countries are not even in the state of war?

My friends parents took in a woman and child in their home. They got the woman a job and after 2 months of working and living rent free, she left back to Ukraine

The logic here is seriously flawed, how can anyone claim Ukraine is safe right now with the war escalating? This kind of decision makes you question what criteria they’re even using.
