Because the people that fund this stuff are all getting tax breaks

This is a dumb headline. The Planetary Society did plenty of in-person stuff in addition to getting some letter drives going etc, by going to Capitol Hill to meet with everyone they could, but they are a pretty small organization and had to pick and choose which fights would be most effective. When I met with staffers for my own senators, they were talking about how they’d just talked to Bill Nye the previous week.
It’s not the Planetary Society’s fault that the current government hates science, and even if it was, no one was stopping NASA Watch from organizing an in-person protest if they thought it was so darn important!
