Belgium officially recognizes Kosovo’s defense attaché in Brussels

Acting Minister of Defense, Ejup Makedonci, and Belgian Minister of Defense, Theo Francken, held a joint press conference today where they announced ”a new step in bilateral cooperation”.
Belgium has decided to officially recognize the defense attaché of the Republic of Kosovo in Brussels, strengthening military representation and institutional relations between the two countries.
The Macedonian expressed gratitude for Belgian support since 2008, describing this decision as a significant step on Kosovo’s path towards Euro-Atlantic integration.
“I am infinitely grateful for the support that Belgium has offered to Kosovo since 2008, and I am extremely enthusiastic about our relations that are beginning to deepen on Kosovo’s journey towards Euro-Atlantic integration. In the Western Balkans, Belgium will always have Kosovo as its reliable ally,” stressed Minister Maqedonci.
Meanwhile, Minister Francken emphasized that the relationship with Kosovo is historical and strategic, calling the recognition of the attaché a “logical step” to strengthen the security partnership.
“Kosovo plays a key role in the Western Balkans and we are showing our commitment, both on the ground with KFOR and diplomatically,” said Minister Francken.
