KM Malta flight KM640 was forced to return to Malta after takeoff earlier this morning due to safety issues in Catania.
The plane departed Malta at 6.05am and was to land at 6.45am in Catania but it turned back around 6.25am.
According to reports, the plane could not land in Catania due to a crane near the runway which could not be lowered. Subsequently, Catania’s Fontanarossa Airport temporarily closed and no flights could arrive or leave.
