    It’s unsurprising. The business model was not great as people would do a one and done with it. For a restaurant to succeed you need repeat business. 

  4. Not in any way surprising. I saw a few videos on social media about these places. The US seemed/seems to have the irony down, playfully being a twat to your customers for a laugh.

    The UK restaurants are just straight up verbally abusive, predominantly staffed by angry women looking to make themselves feel better at the expense of the customers. No playful banter, just straight up disrespect. It was never going to last.

  5. I wanted to pop to one for the novelty but not after they got Katie Hopkins involved. Zero desire for my money to go towards a business that embraces that hateful gobshite.

    When this first went up I commented on a post saying it was just a fad and eating there sounded awful, I got downvoted to oblivion and told ‘well people obviously like it or it wouldn’t exist’…..

    Decent gimmick but was never going to be sustainable.

    I’d have thought doing events at already existing restaurants would’ve been the better model than taking on all the overheads yourself for something that has such limited scope for repeat custom.

    It was a novelty, plus they shouldn’t have gone full asshole on the customers. Yeah, it was funny, but had they toned it down a bit, they could have gotten more repeat customers.

    I really dislike being shouted at and being verbally abused by others, so it’s unsurprising that others feel the same way.

  12. Was given a freebie at one of these, through work.

    Not built for the UK market at all. Didn’t have the arsenal of unemployed improvisers/actors you get in LA or New York to make it work. Just had timid, young hospitality workers who struggled to find the balance between “playfully insulting you” and “checking for allergies and making sure your food is acceptable”.

    Spoke to the franchise owners too. Poor sixty-something couple who had probably dumped a load of retirement money into it. They thought “vegan” was a punchline, and thought anything other than ketchup was an “exotic” sauce.

    Seems like a proper post Covid-era business, not surprised. First time I saw it was extremely unfunny.

    I can see why. It’s one and done, despite all the other comments on here we went and it was actually fun… I think it helped we were with some good friends we could all have a laugh with. To be fair to them we did have an issue with one of the meals, which they sorted quietly and without the piss taking.

Seemed like a funny idea if they were actually rude in a way that made sense but whenever I saw a video it was just pointless swearing and insults for the sake of it, to me the point of it would have been that the servers just say it how it is and can be sarcastic or rude if necessary rather than only ever being rude or swearing if that makes any sense

    I’ve never been to one but the line between making the insults somewhat clever and just flat out calling someone a fat cunt was never really found in any of the videos I’ve watched.

    It’s really hard to do it well and if you’ve been once and paid money to just be insulted with no real thought put into it, I can see why people don’t go back.

    Monumentally naff idea. It’s a gimmick where you go once, get insulted, eat the (I expect) Chef Mic prepared food, and leave. It’s not like you’ll become a repeat customer, the lifeblood of a cafe or restaurant

    It could’ve worked as a pop up concept moving around the country and staying for a few weeks at a time, make some money then move onto a different idea.

    oh no where will I go for my le epic ‘people saying mildly rude things to me’ dining experience, cant wait to show how absolutely funny it is on social media and get loads of clicks

    Because British people can’t do it right, it sounded like they were just “acting” and like they were walking on eggshells, like this would never happen “can I get a vegan soy mulch burger please” “alright fag”, it would be something that’s PC but “mean” like “oh no, we have a vegan, they’ll not shut up about that will they”. And then the worst part is they can’t take it back, people were kicked out for calling them fat after they called the customer fat.

    It might have worked better if it was “oh no, this lard arse will clear our kitchen” “like you can talk tubsy” “can’t wait to spit in *your* food” “maybe I’d like that”.

    TLDR: It was filled with people who can’t give or take an insult properly

    Never thought this would stick it out. No revisit value, and limited initial attendance value. At lesat some ‘novelty’ restauraunts like a teppanyaki grill can be visited for work events, birthdays etc.

    Sounds to me like the business didn’t understand that running a restaurant and a theatre simultaneously is more expensive than people are willing to pay.

    JFC. Do they think you can just start up a business and people are obliged to pay what is costs to run + profit? If so, I’d be happy to come to their home and mow their lawn with a lawnmower towed by a ferrari.

    Shocking really, the premise is terrible service and horrible staff , imitating the very worst of customers. It wouldnt be such a bad idea if the food was at least better than your average premier inn attached establishment. Its a gimmick that grows old before you have left , and to base a business on it is pure folly.

  28. Good – the whole premise of mocking a derogatory stereotype was unacceptable to begin with and would never been considered acceptable were the victim of the mockery anyone other than a white woman.
