Albanian police announced yesterday that after a police operation codenamed “Kalibri” they have arrested 2 Kosovar citizens who had trafficked weapons through the green border with Kosovo, with the aim of selling them in Albania. 8 pistol-type firearms were confiscated from them.

“As a result of the operation, citizens Sh. Q., 31 years old, and AM, 46 years old, both residents of Prizren, were arrested in flagrante delicto.

Following this case, the Director of the Albanian Police, Ilir Proda, has issued a message to citizens from whom he requests cooperation in cracking down on groups that traffic firearms from Kosovo to Albania, while calling the cooperation with the Kosovo Police a “model of success” in the region.

“The latest operation finalized by the Kukës Police, as well as the successive operations conducted by the Tirana Police, in cooperation with the Kosovo Police, to crack down on groups that traffic firearms from Kosovo to Albania, are clear evidence that the State Police is present, vigilant and determined to guarantee security in every corner of the country. Likewise, cooperation with the Kosovo Police has become a model of success in the region,” he wrote.

Proda said that weapons are the main source of criminal incidents, crimes against life and property, as well as a constant threat to public order.

“Every weapon banned, at the border or in our territory, is a life saved,” he said.

I express my gratitude and maximum appreciation to the structures of the Kukes Police, to the patrol officers, the Eagles and the investigation specialists, who, with professionalism and high commitment, cracked down on a case of firearms trafficking in large quantities, seizing 8 pistol-type firearms and arresting two citizens from Kosovo.

Weapons are the main source of criminal events, crimes against life and property, as well as a constant threat to public order. Every weapon banned, at the border or in our territory, is a life saved. The numerous cases of illegal possession of weapons, recently cracked down on throughout the country, speak of an unwavering commitment of the State Police. Every network dismantled is a crime prevented.

The State Police is maximally involved in preventive, investigative and operational actions, both domestically and abroad, in cooperation with our partners, to combat crime in general and organized crime in particular.

In this daily battle, I am convinced that complete success only comes with close cooperation with citizens, civil society, young people, and the media.

As we work for your safety, I invite you to stand by the Police, cooperate, and be part of this new spirit of trust and mutual respect.

Together, we will further strengthen security, further improving the image of Albania, which is and remains a safe and welcoming country, for all visitors and tourists from around the world who choose to come and discover our beauties.

Thank you to the Police structures for their professionalism and maximum commitment, even on these very hot days.

Thank you to the citizens who trust the State Police more and more every day.

My message is clear: Security is not negotiable! Police and citizens, an unstoppable force.
