Why? It’s standard practice to proscribe and ban hate groups who profess and act violently.
Existing laws seem to mostly be retrospective and applied after an offence has been committed. The alternative is costly and we are stretched.
Palestinian Action documented their attack on RAF planes and reiterated their intention to continue.
I’m not sure Amnesty has the right approach here. That said I agree that there is a risk of overreach from the State.
Edit a word
‘Instead of taking draconian measures to [proscribe Palestine Action], the Government should be taking immediate and unequivocal action to put a stop to Israel’s genocide and end any risk of UK complicity in it’.
This is just torching their own credibility for the sake of headlines. Claiming that banning a violent group is draconian is quite frankly mental.
if they had done anything else other than breaking into a military base I would agree
It’s not surprising that the government bans an organisation which *checks notes* breaks into a British military base and damages expensive assets, rendering them temporarily undervicable.
Amnesty International have not been a neutral, credible source for quite some time. Sad to see.
Easiest way to avoid getting your protest organization banned would be to not commit an act of terrorism on UK soil. And for the record it’s a valid thing to be upset about the IDF is doing some very messed up things even if the actions by HAMAS on 7/10 were highly indefensible.
Once you start causing damage worth millions for political reasons, the law will inevitably come after you.
Endless protests against selling arms to Israel and nothing happens. Throw some paint on a plane and have the misfortune of one or two members of your group be violent and you’re permanently labelled as terrorists and the group is banned immediately.
>“Whatever MPs may think about whether Palestine Action’s tactics are appropriate or not, existing criminal laws, accompanied by human rights protections, were more than capable of responding to them.
Why do I keep seeing this being repeated? The anti-terrorism laws ***are*** the existing laws.
Why are all these groups run by utter morons..
They don’t seem to understand that for any protest group to have any effect you need the population on your side yet they go out of the way to piss off the majority of people.
What exactly did they expect was going to happen when they broke into a RAF Base and caused millions pounds of damage?
Not only are you going to turn public opinion, which is already is wavering, against you, but you are going to royally piss of the Government.
Then just to put the icing on the cake they decided to try and ruin a Pride Event.
Nobody is going to pay any attention to anything they are saying.
The same happened to Just stop Oil. They went out of their way to piss off the population and accomplished absolutely nothing.
Breaking into a military base and committing acts of vandalism is punishable by quite a few years in prison. As is trying to beat up police officers with a sledge hammer. PA are unhinged and, rightfully, proscribed.
