No shit, almost as if you made a pedestrianised zone there would be a significant reduction in vehicle accidents.

  2. High levels of car traffic lead to more deaths and injuries. Because obviously.

The lengths I’ve seen people go to in order to discredit and argue against LTNs is amazing. Truly grasping at straws.

It’s also noticeable how the pro-LTN area’s like Hackney, Walthamstow, Camden & Islington are the places currently experiencing the highest house price growth whereas anti-LTN boroughs like Chelsea & Kensington, Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham the lowest house price growth / declines.

Newspaper columnists and loud mouth rhetoric means little. People are voting with their wallets to live in LTN neighbourhoods and areas with good cycling infrastructure. From a personal perspective, as someone who lives in Camden but always planned to buy down Fulham/Putney way, the comparative lack of cycle infrastructure in SW London compared to what I’m used to has been a major dissensentive making me question the merits of living in SW London.

We’ve had a few LTNs over my way that are really nice, but theres been a pretty big group of NIMBYs campaigning against it, and actually managed to get one removed and the council to pay a fine because of some legal technicality with the planning permission of it, and the “victory” photo they posted was exactly what you’d expect. Bunch of OAP’s that want to feel relavant with a couple angry looking middle aged white van men sprinkled in.

Shocking! Or not. I wonder how the conspiracy theorists will twist this.

  6. And if you banned cars completely, I imagine that the number of deaths and injuries on the roads would reduce even further. I’m not sure why people treat these results as some sort of gotcha.

If ALL cars were banned from London (including buses) I am sure deaths and injuries would be cut even more.

“Less people are dead or maimed but im angry because I cant drive my massive SUV everywhere and have to walk like a peasant”

    The Spectator. Almost certainly.

  9. I mean, yeah, obviously?

Vehicles bring an inherent risk. The question should really be whether these LTZs had significantly higher risk and limited inconvenience to warrant the change.

Wouldn’t this just shunt the accidents to other areas due to increased traffic?

I wonder why no one talks about the poor sods living on the roads that are now a lot busier

  12. I remember when they put these in Hyde Park, Leeds. Drug dealers paradise when getting away from the police on scooters!
