The European Union’s envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, held an important meeting in Washington with the ambassadors of the Western Balkan countries, including the ambassador of Kosovo, Ilir Dugolli, and that of Serbia, Dragan Sutanovac.
The meeting took place at the premises of the EU Embassy in the US, as part of Sorensen’s first official visit to the United States of America since taking up his mandate as mediator for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
The EU Ambassador to Washington, Jovita Neliupshiene, confirmed the meeting’s development through a post on social media, where she emphasized that issues of security, stability, and the prospect of EU enlargement were on the agenda.
“It is a pleasure to welcome the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Peter Sorensen, during his first visit to the US in this position. Alongside ambassadors from the Western Balkans, security, stability and enlargement were on the agenda. Unity is the key to moving forward,” Neliupshiene wrote.
This meeting comes at a sensitive time for the region, with increased efforts by the EU and the US to revitalize the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade and to promote the integration of Balkan countries into Euro-Atlantic structures.
