Celebrity Infinity, one of Celebrity Cruises’ most popular ships, is docked currently in Turkey’s Kuşadası after experiencing a technical failure that has slowed down its voyage and disrupted its itinerary. The cruise liner, which had a scheduled July 7, 2025, departure from Kuşadası towards Mykonos, Greece, experienced a sudden power failure after there was a small fire on board. The incidents have left a full blackout on the ship for hours, resulting in cabins losing lighting, air conditioning, and indirectly affecting foods services on board.
This technical malfunction has caused significant disruption to the cruise schedule, resulting in the ship being docked in Kuşadası for more than two days. Celebrity Cruises has confirmed that the ship will be delayed until at least the evening of July 9, 2025, with the possibility of further adjustments depending on the extent of the repairs. Guests onboard the Celebrity Infinity were initially informed of the delay via announcements and letters distributed throughout the ship.
Details of the Technical Issue and Passenger Impact
The issue first arose when the ship was docked in Kuşadası, leaving passengers without essential amenities. As described by some passengers on social media, the power failure left them without air conditioning on what was a particularly hot day in Turkey, and there was also a disruption in communications and meal services. In one social media post, a passenger recounted, “It was a total blackout for a few hours… no power meant no communications, no power to rooms, no AC, delayed shows, delayed meals.”
The technical malfunction was traced back to an electrical fire onboard, which was discovered on July 8. To mitigate the problem and restore the ship’s operational systems, external specialists were flown in to assist with repairs. The delay in resolving the issue has led to a cancellation of one scheduled port of call on the Celebrity Infinity’s itinerary: the Greek port of Kavala.
Revised Itinerary and Compensation for Affected Passengers
Due to the extended stay in Kuşadası, Celebrity Cruises has made adjustments to the ship’s itinerary. As a result, the planned visit to Kavala, Greece, has been omitted from the cruise schedule. In response to the inconvenience caused to passengers, Celebrity Cruises is offering refundable onboard credits to those affected. The amount of compensation varies based on the stateroom category:
- Inside and Outside Cabins: $200
- Balcony Cabins: $300
- Concierge and AquaClass: $400
- Deluxe Suites: $600
- Third and Fourth Passengers: $50 each
The cruise line has also suggested that the July 11, 2025 sea day may potentially be replaced with an additional visit to Mykonos, Greece, ensuring that passengers still have a chance to explore one of the most popular destinations in the Greek Islands.
Despite the disruption, Celebrity Infinity is still expected to arrive in Athens (specifically Piraeus) on July 12, 2025, where passengers will disembark as originally planned. The final leg of the journey will still proceed according to the initial schedule, ensuring that the overall cruise experience is minimally impacted by the delay.
