Be careful when traveling in Macedonia, you can be arrested and end up in prison if you exceed the speed limit in traffic, details from the law

With the latest changes to the Criminal Code of North Macedonia, any road user caught driving at more than double the speed limit or driving while intoxicated will be arrested and taken to the police station, after which a criminal report will be filed against the person, which risks ending up in prison for up to 3 years.
So, if the speed limit is 50 km/h and you are caught driving your vehicle at over 100 km/h, police officers will immediately escort you to the nearest police station, where they will file a criminal report, and after the case is processed by the prosecutor’s office, you will appear before the court in the area where you committed the violation to receive the deserved punishment.
According to Article 297a, drivers who commit such legal violations, endangering other road users, can be sentenced to up to 3 years in prison.
After the legal changes, there have been frequent cases where irresponsible drivers have been escorted to the police station and are now being prosecuted for violating the safety of traffic participants.
