  1. For so many of these far-right pricks the only time they ever enter a library is to censor books in it. Absolutely no interest in making society better for anyone, just desperate to make society worse for the people they don’t like.

The fault is not entirely Reform’s. The Tories introduced a new set of legislations criminalising free speech, right to assembly, freedom of experience, and Labour has been continuing the tradition by proscribing a direct action group (I don’t support them for the record) and blatantly permitting TERFs to dictate how organisations should operate.

They need to stay in their lane. I as a parent will decide what is or isn’t appropriate for my child to read. Not some bigoted small minded waste of space who belongs in the middle ages

  4. Sir_Henry_Deadman on

Yes but only what they and the heritage Foundation think is bad… Not all books just anything with you know compassion, empathy, human emotions etc

  5. AnalTinnitus on

The UK public is being nudged into voting for these clowns by the media, who are determined to give Reform legitimacy by their constant coverage. They’re a party with a handful of MPs, but you’d think they were the official opposition right now.

  6. How living hell does Farage think he has any moral authority whatsoever?

He’s a cesspit for Gods sakes!

  7. Intrepid-Patient574 on

Another case of “free speech but only for the stuff we agree with”. Cunts.

Since when have councils been allowed to control what we can and can’t read??

We must not tolerate trumpism in our country – not falling for the tolerance paradox

  9. Reform UK: we are tired of things getting cancelled because some people are woke and don’t like them

Also Reform UK: We are going to cancel some books because we don’t like them

  10. Cancel culture and censorship only when it’s being levied at them, every fucking time.

    I’m exhausted

    > 53% of the school librarians I surveyed said they had been asked to remove books from their shelves. Even more worryingly, 56% of those librarians then felt forced to actually remove the books in question.

    > An overwhelming number of the books ripped off school library shelves had LGBTQ+ themes or authors, and the bans were usually in reaction to a single parent complaint – or even school leaders acting in anticipation of causing offence among particular communities.

Can we please for the love of sanity, NOT do this please?

Reform hates Britain. They hate British people, they hate British values, they hate this country and what it stands for. They want to turn us in to some weak and pathetic imitation of the shit hole that is the USA. I pray we don’t give them the power to drag us down that road.

  13. Hellstorm901 on

    Reform is a walking hypocrisy

They preach about freedom of speech and expression yet will call for censorship of the “Transagenda” claiming to be trying to “protect children”

They preach about businesses being allowed to pick and choose who they want to do transactions with when it comes to a baker refusing to make a cake for a same sex couple yet when a bank says “We do not want to do business with your party leader” they file court motions saying that the bank must be forced to allow him to use their services

They preach about how people must stand with the police and support law and order yet will routinely insult people who have trained to become police officers because of their gender, height or race

They preach about how we must support our troops yet they regularly mock the armed forces claiming they’ve been “Taken over by the Woke” with their evidence of this more often than not being the presence of women or Asians in the military and they call for such troops who have trained to defend our country to lose their jobs

They preach about how people should stop being offended “Triggered” by things they see which they don’t like and should “Man up” yet they spend the first month of being in power in some places trying to have flags they don’t like pulled down because it “offends them”

I am all for Reform having policies like this… it means they will never get elected.

I’m reading the comments and I’m looking at this crazy article with crazy US ideas then it hits me. Why are the US so involved with Reform? Why are Reform trying to be like the US? Finally, why are reform getting all this publicity?

It’s the NHS. None of our established political parties can touch it. The US wants that pie, it wants that pie before it does any meaningful deals with us. How do you do do it though? No one is going to vote for that so you get a new party and put it into power on an immigration ticket.

You might think that sounds like a conspiracy theory but to me it makes perfect sense.

A quick search tells me I’m not the only one thinking this [https://fullfact.org/health/reform-nigel-farage-pay-for-nhs-labour/](https://fullfact.org/health/reform-nigel-farage-pay-for-nhs-labour/)

  16. And it’s these shit-for-brainses that will be up in arms because of the updates to Roald Dahl’s books.

These idiots don’t know what they’re doing so they are trying to copy what’s happening in America.

  18. Striking_Smile6594 on

Oh look, yet again the people who loudly claim to by the defenders of individual liberties can’t wait to ban something.

Right wingers who claim to love ‘freedom’ are the biggest bunch of liars around. The only freedoms they are interested in is the freedoms around making money. All other freedoms they hate.

  19. Adventure-Bench on

We need strong free speech laws to protect us from this coming reform tsunami of evil.

  20. I’m sure Reform and their voters  would love a nice big bonfire for the books they disagree with.

These people really are the bottom of the barrel.

  21. Cute-Sand8995 on

Everyone knows the sort of people who historically banned books. Reform showing their true colours.

  22. Generic-Name03 on

What do you mean, ‘could open the gates’? It literally is censorship.

  23. Reform is so pathetic they have no shame in stealing the ideas from the fascists in the state’s.

  24. Good luck. We would never, ever tolerate book bans in the UK. Farage is trying so hard to be poundshop Trump, that it’ll be his undoing

  25. derrenbrownisawizard on

I’d like for them to give some examples of the books (couldn’t see this in the article).

I member when everyone kicked off about the ‘No Outsiders’ books and right wing furor (from across ethnic lines) was at its peak. So I looked at these awful pieces of heinous literature and there were shocking books that were basically

‘Not everyone has a mum and a dad and that’s ok’

    And

‘This penguin is looked after by two daddy penguins’

The absolute wet wipes losing their minds over books that are purely describing and representing our broad society. Bet they would have done this about books representing people from ethnic minorities if we were just 20-30 years ago

What do people expect when they are bought and paid for by American evangelists

  27. All I will say is Section 28 fucked me up.

Not being able to talk to kids about something that has been proven across countless cultures and many centuries to be as natural a part of human nature as left handedness is unnecessary damage to LGBT+ children.
