BRAWLEY & EL CENTRO — Legacy MD Medical Group launched two major community initiatives on Wednesday, July 9, marking a powerful start to a month of health-focused events across Imperial County. While Legacy’s Brawley office welcomed seniors for its first Senior Breakfast Appreciation Day, the Calexico office simultaneously hosted the first Free Sports Physical Clinic for student athletes.
The day began with two different crowds but one shared mission: to care for the Valley’s most vulnerable residents.
In Brawley, local seniors gathered for breakfast, blood pressure and sugar checks, Medicare information, and office tours. Guests also enjoyed raffles, games of bingo, and opportunities to meet with Legacy MD’s healthcare providers.
“It’s nice to feel appreciated,” said Amelia Garcia, a 74-year-old Brawley resident who attended the senior breakfast. “Legacy always makes us feel seen—not just as patients, but as people.”
Meanwhile, in Calexico, students and parents from across the region participated in Legacy MD’s Free Sports Physical Clinic, designed to ensure all student athletes are cleared and ready for the upcoming school year, regardless of insurance status.
Dr. John Strong, Legacy MD physician, emphasized the importance of both events. “We believe healthcare should be easy to access and centered on the needs of the people,” he said. “Today was about providing care, making connections, and helping families and seniors feel supported in their health journey.”

Parents from other cities are already planning to attend upcoming events. Jessica Morales, a mother of three from El Centro, said she’s grateful for Legacy’s efforts. “I’m planning to take my son to the clinic on Wednesday,” she said. “It’s hard to get these things done when you work full-time, so having a free clinic like this—close to home—is such a relief.”
