Iceland’s national women’s team ended their UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 campaign with a dramatic 4–3 defeat to Norway.

As reported by Flashscore, Iceland’s eastern cousin secured their third consecutive Group A victory and will now progress to the knockout stage.

Gave as good as they got

Despite being underdogs, Iceland started brightly in their final group match.

Sandra Jessen forced a fine save early on, and Sveindís Jónsdóttir gave Iceland the lead from the resulting corner, smashing in the tournament’s 50th goal.

The early setback awakened Norway, who responded before the break. Signe Gaupset, on her first tournament start, netted twice —a volley from Vilde Bøe Risa’s cross and a low drive assisted by the same player.

Risa now shares the tournament lead in assists with England’s Alessia Russo.

Norway extended their lead after half-time when Frida Maanum scored her first international goal since December, assisted by Gaupset. Iceland struggled to respond, with Jónsdóttir again their main threat.

Gaupset and Maanum combined once more for Norway’s fourth.

Late goals from Hlin Eiríksdóttir and a Glódís Viggósdóttir penalty—following Marit Lund’s red card—gave Iceland a slither of hope, but by that time, it was too late.

Iceland’s exit, inevitable after their earlier loss to Switzerland, is now imminent. While results fell short, the team played with more spirit than many commentators expected.
