Suspect arrested in northern Greece for serial car thefts

A man was arrested Friday morning in the northern region of Halkidiki after police caught him driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier that day from an outdoor parking lot.

According to authorities, officers determined that the suspect and an identified accomplice used a specific method to steal the vehicle. During a search, police found and seized an electronic device resembling a car key inside the vehicle. The car was returned to its rightful owner.

Further investigation, in cooperation with police in the nearby city of Kavala, revealed that the two suspects had allegedly used the same method to steal two additional vehicles in June. The stolen cars were valued at 75,000 euros, according to victim statements.

Police also seized a mobile phone from the suspect. He appeared before a local prosecutor and was referred to an investigating magistrate.
