Flight cancellations hit Tromsø Airport due to fog, yellow danger warning for torrential rain in eastern Norway, and other news from the country on Monday.
Fog causes flight disruptions at Tromsø Airport
Several flights from Tromsø Airport were delayed or cancelled on Monday morning due to weather conditions.
Low fog has settled over the coast of Troms and parts of the surrounding fjord areas, significantly impacting visibility, according to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
As a result, all scheduled departures from Tromsø Airport until 7.40 am were rescheduled.
Travellers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates.
Yellow danger warning issued for torrential rain in eastern Norway
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall across large parts of eastern Norway on Monday afternoon.
In some areas, rainfall may exceed 20 millimetres per hour.
“There are local variations in intensity and amount, and the weather can change quickly. The location of the precipitation is uncertain,” the warning states.
The alert covers a broad region stretching from Geilo to the Swedish border, and from Otta to Kongsberg. In addition to the heavy rain, there is also a risk of lightning.
Residents have been advised to unplug electrical devices to avoid damage and to steer clear of outdoor activities in exposed areas such as mountains, bodies of water, or open fields.

Oslo officials advise against swimming after heavy rainfall
Following heavy rainfall on Sunday night, the Oslo Municipality Water and Sewage Administration is advising residents to avoid swimming for at least 24 hours.
“The Municipality of Oslo recommends waiting at least 24 hours before swimming after heavy rain,” Jean-Yves Manum Gallardo, communications manager at the agency, said in a statement to the newspaper Aftenposten.
The recommendation aims to reduce the risk of illness caused by bacteria and pollution that can enter the water during sewage overflows.
Such overflows may occur when the sewer system is overwhelmed, allowing untreated wastewater to flow into the Oslofjord.
