Hoda Kotb had a hilarious reaction after she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy award six months after she exited The Today Show.
Jenna Bush Hager FaceTime called Kotb, 60, to discuss their nomination for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host at the Daytime Emmys during the Monday, July 14, episode of Today With Jenna & Friends.
“Hoda, listen. We have never won [an Emmy] but I think this could be our year. The last time’s the charm,” Bush Hager, 43, told her former co-host.
Kotb jokingly responded by calling out Kelly Clarkson, whose daytime talk show has been their major competition at the awards ceremony since its debut in 2019. “Let me tell you something, this is our last hurrah. This is happening. ‘Kelly Clarkson, who?’ is what I’d like to say,” she said. “I’m kidding. We love Kelly so much … but it’s our turn.”
Bush Hager then suggested that she and Kotb should launch a “campaign” to secure their win. However, Kotb had another idea.
“No, you know the whole law of attraction. Don’t chase. Remember this, Jenna. No one runs for a bus they’re already on,” Kotb said.
Clarkson, 43, previously won the Entertainment category in 2020, 2021 and 2022, while Kotb and Bush Hager were nominated in the Entertainment category in 2021 and 2022 and in the Informative category in 2020.

The nomination comes after Kotb announced that she was leaving Today after nearly 30 years at NBC in September 2024.
“I just turned 60, and it was such a monumental moment for me when I turned 60 years old because I started thinking about that decade, like, what does that decade mean? What does it hold? What’s it gonna have for me?” she explained at the time. “And I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and to try something new.”
Her final episode aired on January 10.
