Hello all, I am planning on doing a 7 day hike starting at Kinsarvik, looping around toward Trolltunga, and ending in Tyssedal. I am wondering how feasible this is for someone who has moderate backpacking experience – i’ve done multi day hikes in japan, northern iceland, and scotland. I’ve added an image which colors the routes of how each day is divided, ~7 miles a day, with most of the climb and descent on the starting and ending days. I’m planning the hike for around July 25th – August 1st. The weather forecasts are likely inaccurate this far out but i’m not sure how feasible this hike is not knowing much about the conditions of backpacking in Norway.

Super feasible. You could probably easily do this in 3 or 4 days. (But doing a lazy hike is also great.) Most of the work is the accent the first day and the decent the last day. You could also make a bigger circle, if you feel like it after the first day. In between it’s open mountains, easy to walk pretty much everywhere, easy to just follow a compass if you leave the marked path. (It’s easy until mid September, after that bad weather or even snow gets more likely…)
There are patches of snow above 1200/1300m. By now very compacted due to melt/freeze cycles. I recommend proper mountain boots that don’t soak in water if you need to cross sizeable patches.
You should have a tent/mat/sleeping bag combo good for 0C or 5C. Daytime temperatures higher. Be prepared for rain and wind at the same time. (But in the summer you might get lucky and get perfect weather…) You can sleep pretty much everywhere, I recommend finding a isolated lake some distance off path. If you are putting up a tent near the DNT huts, you need to pay a fee for using the amenities.
