The area of utilized agricultural land is decreasing in Kosovo
During 2024, the results of the Statistics Agency survey show that the utilized area of agricultural land was 420 thousand 228 hectares (including common land), where compared to the previous year 2023 (which was 420 thousand 688 hectares) there is a decrease in the utilized land area of 456.3 hectares.

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics announces that of the total utilized area of agricultural land in 2024, the largest portion belongs to meadows and pastures (including common land) which was 216 ha (534,33%), compared to the previous year 51,53 (which was 2023 ha) or 216%.
“The decrease in the area used on common land was a result of the decline in livestock numbers,” the announcement states.
According to ASK, arable land – fields – accounts for 44,93% and gardens for 0,22% of the total utilized agricultural land area.
“During 2024, the total arable land – fields was 188 795.00 ha. The largest part was with: cereals (125 274,35 ha, or 66,4%); fodder crops (37 117.13 ha, or 19,7%); vegetables in the open field, in greenhouses and in gardens (9 827.39 ha), of which vegetables in the open field and greenhouses were 8 914,65 ha or 4,7%; potatoes (3 806.07 ha or 2,0%); legumes (2 929.40 ha or 1,6%); industrial plants (1 689.82 ha or 0,9%); other crops (2 633.81 ha or 1,4%) and fallow land was 6 429.78 ha or 3,4%”, reports ASK.
Meanwhile, the area irrigated at least once during the survey reference period in 2024 was 34 thousand 70 hectares.
Meanwhile, the total area treated with pesticides in 2024 was 122 hectares.
As for sheep, during 2024 their number was 211, which compared to the previous year 220 (which was 2023 sheep), there is a slight increase.
