Are Reform voters finally about to find out that politics isn’t as simple as screaming slogans and blaming everyone else?

  2. Letting us all know what we already did, Reform do not stand for the average person.

I said when they got all these councilors elected that this could be the best thing that could happen. Because we’d get to see just how useless these people are in a substantial way, and the next GE will see Reform actually running on their record.

Shining a light on cockroaches might be scary, but at least once you know you have cockroaches you can start to plan how to deal with them.

Strange, that seems to be the exact opposite of what they were saying before the election.

They aren’t stopping any boats, either.

Bit of a strange line to take considering social care is funded by a separate precept rather than council tax.

  6. This will be exactly what happens if people are fooled into voting them into national power. All the social stuff that helps low-medium income people will suddenly be “unaffordable” while the rich make out like bandits. These people are extreme neoliberals.

  7. There you have it in no uncertain terms, Reform are _not_ standing for the common person.

  8. Shocker – governing is harder than just being opposition in moaning about everything

Welcome to the real world Nige, so your promises are just as empty as the other parties? Seems like working is a lot harder than just criticising other people working.

Didn’t labour also reject calls for cutting council tax for struggling families? I don’t think tories cut council tax either, whats the story here?

Brexit has bankrupted the country and now Monsewer Fartrage has another “Great Idea”?

To be fair social care is a massive problems for all local governments and needs sorting out….
But it’s always fun seeing reform having to back track and people see what frauds these grifters are

  13. iamezekiel1_14 on

No shit. Did you really need Reform to tell you this? Welcome to one of the driving factors which is bankrupting the country.

So reading that, as we know really, most councils are under financial pressure or even bankruptcy, by making cuts they can reduce council tsx rises, but not cut it.
If you have a council with ring fenced net zero budgets and dei, you may find council tax going up more.

Basically, we don’t want to fuck with pensioners so we aren’t gonna do anything…

Are reform voters waking up yet? They are the party for the elite- just like starters Labour, which is practically Tory.

  17. mars-jupiter on

Turns out you can’t have low taxes whilst also having a massive welfare state, you have to pick one or the other.

    Absolute shocker I know…

  18. Hang on. Weren’t our bills going to fall when Reform councillors tackled the boats, got rid of woke DEI stuff, and banned climate change?

  19. It’s so easy to grift money from the sidelines blaming the ones in power and giving easy answers, no right wing politician with half a brain cell should ever actually want to get elected, it always crumbles so spectacularly within the first year

All any party has to do is stop unwanted immigration and youd be in office for 30years. Farage is copying trumps slogans to get power, including doge, but he wont do shit, he just wants his hands in the trough. I wish and hope sumat like corbyn can happen, his radical policies will be blocked, he has a lot of sensible policies

It does suck a bit when you have no family in care or other issues that you are paying £100-300 per month to take care of someone else family.social care should never have been privatised.

To be clear I want people to get an acceptable level of care in old age or infirmity. Right now though everyone scream blue murder if you try and make the system more efficient. That’s mostly because the people doing the screaming don’t pay the bill and will not accept having to travel say 30 minutes.

Appreciate this will be a pretty unpopular viewpoint but we can’t just keep asking people to fund more and more so that everyone gets everything they want

  22. notmichaelgood on

This isn’t news, they don’t stand for people like you and me, they don’t care and would rather see us dead

  23. So Reform are learning that trying to actually govern is harder than just screeching.

    Shocking.

Doubt their followers will hold them accountable. They love a good screech.

  24. What? You mean social care is the biggest expense for councils and it’s a mandatory obligation, and not spending money on asylum seeking drag queens hosting away days for council workers and non-binary children?

  25. TheSmallestPlap on

In my constituency the local (Reform) council candidate just spouted about boats. He somehow got elected.

I don’t think they’re scraping down the M1 in rowboats, what are you going to do to help the local towns and villages?

I really don’t think local councils should even be commenting on foreign policy. Help your constituents first.

Their supporters are going to try a coup in the next few years. Mark my words
