“Dr Mohan said: “She was very confident that it was her own decision and she was not influenced.”

Its a sad story. From reading the article, it seems like the mother did influence her daughters refusal of steroids – when she had an 80% chance of recovery.

The decision was clearly a bad choice, but she was 23. So, at what point do you lose your agency to make decisions, regardless of whether they’re harmful.

  2. *A struck-off nurse turned loud mouthed attention seeking anti-vax POS likely caused her daughter’s death and has expressed absolutely no remorse, instead using the tragedy to promote her own loathsome beliefs and ego* – there, FIFY.

  3. I don’t think there’s much question here that her mother was the overriding influence on her choices of treatment, and ultimately those choices contributed to her likely avoidable death.

But, it’s not illegal to tell someone your opinion, and a 23 year old has agency over their own choices. Unless they can prove that their mother lied or coerced in such a way that could constitute an illegal act, I don’t see how this inquiry can bring any form of justice to her brothers.

  4. Ignorant question on my part but why is there a coroner’s inquest questioning the family? The cause of death was the ignorance and stupidity of the adult patient, quite likely as a direct result of the ignorance and stupidity of the mum but why is that part of an inquest?

  5. There’s some brilliant documentaries about these situations, the cancer conspiracy was eye-opening.

Unfortunately this seems to be happening more and more often with the spread of misinformation, people are using coffee enimas rather than chemo.

Remember everyone, cancer is just the mass dividing of a broken cell. You have to get it out and kill the bits leftover, that’s what cancer treatment does.

My mum is one like this she always said if she were to get cancer, she’d refuse chemo, but she wouldn’t use natural methods either, just stuff that prevents pain as it progresses

I listened to the BBC podcast about this very sad case. Legally, the young woman may have made her own decision, but there seemed to be a long history of parenting behaviour by her mother that led to a complicated relationship and did not seem to be conducive to helping her daughter make the best choices about her care.
Her brothers (estranged from the mother) tried to intervene legally to safeguard their sister.
Remember during Covid that Kate Shemirani compared NHS staff to the Nazi war criminals convicted at Nuremberg. She is a dangerous conspiracy grifter.
