The Montenegrin junior basketball team was defeated today in Berane by the North Macedonian team (71:66) in the second friendly match as part of preparations for the European B Championship, which will be held in Pitesti from July 25 to August 3.
Coach Marko Sekulić, unlike last night’s match, gave a greater chance to players who had less playing time today. North Macedonia had the advantage in the first part of the first quarter, but our team reached a 9:0 advantage with a 20:11 run, which was also the largest lead for Montenegro. However, the guests turned the game around with an 8:0 run in the first part of the second period (25:23), but our team knew how to respond and went into halftime with a 37:34 advantage.
Montenegro maintained the lead, but North Macedonia turned it around at the end of the third quarter (49:46), and at the end of the match gained a double-digit lead – 71:61, thus announcing victory.
In our national team, only Đorđe Gulić was in double figures with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Vladimir Komnenović added eight points, Pavle Mugoša, Andrija Đaletić and Danilo Nikezić six each, Denil Krnic, Bojan Kljajić and Andrija Dožić five each, Đorđe Đukanović four, Blažo Mudreša three, and Luka Nikolić, Vuk Ivelja, Lazar Rakočević and Maksim Brnović two points each.
For our national team, this was the last test before the European B Championship.
Montenegro is in Group D, where the Netherlands, Norway, Croatia and Slovakia are also located, and the “reds” will play their opening match on July 25th against Norway.
