JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) – Healthcare workers with UAW Local 95 held a rally Friday afternoon to call for improved conditions.
The workers are on strike from Mercyhealth East clinic in Janesville.
They say they are standing up for their safety and for better wages.
“We’re here because we want fair wages, we want lower premiums for our insurance and some security,” registered nurse and chairperson of Local 95 Mercyhealth East Enrique Casiano said. “They say they are going to but they haven’t put it on paper where we can hold them to it.”
Participants held handmade signs. Speakers at the rally, including union representative Andrew Stark, called directly on Mercyhealth with their requests.
“If you value workers you’ll get to the table and offer them a fair and equitable deal that they can ratify so they can get back in and give the patient care they’ve been doing for years,” Stark said. “Mercy, it’s time to bargain. Let’s get to the table.”
Almost 140 workers have been on strike since early July.
