“It’s pea soup,” our deckhand says as we roll backwards off the side of the boat into the dark water. It’s green and hazy, thick with slippery mucus-like filaments that surround us as we make our descent.

We are diving off Ardrossan, a small town on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula, sitting across the Gulf St Vincent from Adelaide.
