The European Commission has raised serious concerns over a top-level rail appointment of FS Group, warning that it may breach EU rules designed to safeguard fair competition in the rail sector. At the centre of the case is Gianpiero Strisciuglio, who moved directly from leading Italy’s rail infrastructure manager RFI to become CEO of Trenitalia, the state-owned train operator.
